Mike Spanhel invited Frank B., Dave T.. & Chet J. for an offshore trip today.
We left his dock 8AM. Destination was the Pasco Reefs to try trolling and do some bottom fishing. Trolling did not work out too well as there was a ton of floating seagrass.
One of the starboard motor sucked in weeds and was overheating so we had to shut it down.
While motoring along Mike spotted a nice ledge & ravine so we decided to try our luck.
First drop of the anchor to get our anchor bearing did not put us over the ravine but we put our lines down anyways. We ended up just catching Sea Bass so we re-anchored. We immediately started catching Gag Groupers and one Red grouper on sardines. Only two of the Gags were legal size, so we had to release them as they are out of season. Other fish caught included grunts and more bass. The weather and seas were surprising good. We headed in early as we only had the one motor. All in all it was a good day fishing with great friends. Thank you Mike S.!
