Went mahi fishing out of Islamorada down in the Keys this week with club members Jim Mccarthy, Jerry Lubig, and fishing buddy Ed Palus.
Went out Tuesday in 5-10- mph winds and 2ft seas and found good weed lines about 20 miles out in 800+ ft of water. We slow trolled the weedlines until we hit on a nice school fish.
The fish were taking anything we threw out for bait. We couldn’t get the fish off the hook fast enough and get our lines back in the water. We were just tossing the fish in the boat and throwing our lines back out as fast as we could. It was pretty much chaos and a lot of fun. Wednesday we tried an area about 10 miles south in 10-15 mph winds and 2-3 ft seas.
Couldn’t find a weedline to fish so we trolled some and chased birds, We found 4-5 schools of small mahi 1/2″-1″ undersized. Finally came upon some diving birds and had a short run of some nice sized keepers. Weather was good–the guys were great–caught a bunch of fish—hit a few Tiki bars–Terrific trip. Sending along picture of the guys on the trip
