I had been grouper fishing on 8.25.15 but had already arranged for one of my rental boats for 8.26.15. I was not sure how tired I would be from the grouper trip but I had asked Dave Taylor previously to go fishing. We agreed to I just ran out the Anclote to fish for a couple hours making it a real short day, getting in before it got too hot. When we got to the mouth of the river near Anclote River Park where it opens into the flats we could see several groups of birds working so we headed over and spent about 2 hours catching small undersize trout and ladyfish. I even saw a tarpon roll near the boat. we were using artificial lures both hard and plastic. The white and lighter colored plastic worked very well in 3 to 5 feet of water. We headed out to the sandbar just to see if we could find something bigger and caught some more small trout. It was around noon and we stripped down our poles to head home, it was getting hot. The birds were still working the flats as we came into the mouth of the river. Just as we went past the boat ramp at Anclote river we encounter a school of large fish, I think Jacks all around the boat. Neither of us were set up and the polls were stored so we just left them for others to catch. It was a great short day on the water. I can not remember seeing as much action on the water at one time in this area in the 5 years I have actively fished here.
