State the length and species in the box below Taking advantage of another great day, Mike B, Bob S, friend Joe and myself headed out of Nick’s Park for a day of Red Grouper fishing. Using Threadfins, squid and Pinfish we fished 5 spots from 85 feet to 102 feet. Best action was in 102 feet. The grouper were eager to bite and were generally larger than usual. We caught 12 keepers Red Grouper up to 29 inches releasing all fish over the limit. They were still biting well when we left for home at 2. The water was super calm all day making for a really enjoyable trip.

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report do not state the fish’s length in this box. State the length and species in the box below The morning started with a journey to 65 feet. The Gulf was calm as a lake with little wind and partly sunny skies.

It was a decent day of fishing.  After getting shut out at our first stop, we traveled about a mile and the bite was on.

Stu Anderson, Mike Spanhel, Jack and I caught a mixed bag of fish.  13 Hogs with 2 keepers, 6 Porgies, dozens of Grunts, keeping only the largest, a small flounder and a decent fighting Amberjack.

We traveled back into 30 feet in search of Sheepshead with some success. 8 sheepshead were landed with 3 in the cooler.  To our surprise, we were also hooking Gag Grouper.  Fighting six of these with light tackle was fun.

A good time was had by all.

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report do not state the fish’s length in this box. State the length and species in the box below Capt Mike Spanhel invited Frank Bellizio, Butch Kaelin, and Terry Reelitz on a little Hogfish hunting trip.
Winds were light, the current was running strong and the fog was light for a change.
Headed out to 30′ of water and circled back to 20′ at the end of the day.
Hogfish bite was slow, all in we bagged about a dozen, with 5 being keepers. Butch had the hot hand for the day snatching 3 for keepers. Frank B. took honors with the biggest Hog at +16″‘s – it was a bruiser.
The grunts were very active and at times a nuisance, a very fun pain in the butt but I think they got in the way of the Hogs at times.
Frank was in heaven with his favorites, the Puffers were BIG and plentiful.
Thanks to Captain Mike, the ride back home was pleasant as was the whole day

The hog bite was only fair, we caught about 15, with 4 keepers.   The gag bite seems to have dropped off since Dec-Jan, with fewer fish and a bit smaller, but we did catch 15-20 with the largest being just over 26″.

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report do not state the fish’s length in this box. State the length and species in the box below Mike Kaplan and crew (Jim T, Mike B and Joe) headed out around 0600 from Nick’s Park.  We picked up the pin traps and headed through some fog to 105 ft of water SW of the Cottee.  Utilizing Mike Kaplan’s Rhodan and the spot lock GPS feature to stop on various red grouper and snapper spots was super easy.  I caught first 19 in red grouper on a jig and soft plastic on first drop.  Jim Thurkill did the same with a jig and we thought it was gonna be limit out in 2 hour kinda day.  Both slight undersized.  Junk fish followed so stopped the jig and got down to bait fishing.  Cut threadfin was the bait of the day.  Fish bit on cut grunt and squid also, but think all keepers caught on cut frozen threadfin.  Live bait to grab some grouper and even a snapper.  Biggest snapper was a 14 inch mangrove snapper by Jim T.  Biggest grouper was Mike’s friend Joe who caught a 27 in monster red grouper.  I caught a medium sized 22.5 and a 20.5 red grouper.  All in all 4 keeper grouper, several lane and one mangrove snapper and a suprise catch of lesser amberjacks finished off the day.  Smooth ride out and back.  Thanks for another epic and safe trip Mike Kaplan.

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report do not state the fish’s length in this box. State the length and species in the box below Wild day – negative tide had to wait until mid-morning to launch from the marina…. then had to contend with fog which is still rolling out there.

Felt good to get out and on the water with my trusty 1st Mate Mary.

Started out north side of Anclote River and kept working way North. Live shrimp, Gulp and Fish-Bites loaded up on freelines, hanging below a cork and on jigs.
All the above worked with some success, water temps ran 64-65 degrees with a moderate current.
For the day, about 25 Mackerel with biggest 24″, a dozen Trout tops being 16″, a nice Blue Fish. We lost probably as many Macks and Trout at boat side that came un-buttoned.
Best spot for the day was Green 5 – we lost some bruisers there amongst the carb traps

Fun ride back in with calm seas and still plenty of fog – the Garmin came in handy
