Bob S. and his son Brian invited me to fish with them. We left Bob’s dock at 6:30 and traveled 47 miles NE. We limited out on ARS within 1 1/2 hours.
We moved to several others spots looking for grouper. We caught several but never got on that was keeper size. We kept catching the ARS all day but since we already had our limit on ice we could not keep any more. We fished depths from 50 to 70 feet and only used sardines and squid. The seas and weather was almost perfect all day with the exception of one cloud burs that lasted only 15 minutes. It was a joy fishing with Bob & his son. Thank you for a great day of catching.

Dave Taylor, Mike Kaplan, Jim McCarthy and I headed out at 7AM to a spot about 41 miles west of Gulf Harbors. We dodged rain until we were almost on our spot. Dropped mostly sardines and by 10AM had our limit of Red Snapper to 23″. Did we say we had a good day and come home, of course not! We moved a few times looking for grouper and only caught one interesting looking fish, see picture. The ride out was a little rough but coming in Mike K. managed a short nap. Good day with good friends. Thanks Mike, Dave and Jim for helping out the novice captain.

Bass fishing has been slow and the weather has kept me indoors. After the rain stopped yesterday decided to give it a go. Local ponds are all overflowing and prevented me from reaching some of my prime spots but I did get lucky and found a spot that produced five fish, three were nice sized, Cabin fever got me out, may try again this evening.
If this report includes a tournament entry please state the species and lenth of the fish caught in this box. Large mouth Bass 24″ long and weighted 7 lbs.

Beautiful weather for a change so I went out this AM to fish the flats in front of power plant from 8 to noon which was slightly cooler and before the PM storms. I used my trusty shrimp and fished 6 to 8 foot of water, I caught 2 keeper trout and a nice sized ladyfish. It is cooling off. Tightlines.

Terry Freeman, Bob Sherley and my-self ( Rick Uffa) all hooked up with Mike K for a off shore trip.

As usual we meet  way before the crack of dawn, and the sea God’s weren’t nice to us at all. Mike said boy’s it going to be a CALM  day out there , with 5 knots wins, but the weather man was WRONG. It blew at least 10-15 knots  most of the day and the waves were  anywhere from 3-4′, it not a enjoyable day on the water.

But as you know Mike has some good spots off shore. So we hit at least 10-12 spots out there, none really produces many fish ( for those  condition), but manages to get 7 keeper grouper and  a bunch of nice lanes. Terry landed a nice 25 3/4 gag grouper, the biggest of the day, and also got 3 nice size sea bass.

Got a story to tell. Long story short. I was letting RODNEY hold my grouper rod as I was  catching lanes and had a big bite on the grouper rod, by the time I got to it, the line broke at my tip, then about 15 minutes later Mike THOUGHT he had a big fish on his line, so he brought it to the surface and HERE he had caught my line that broke, so I put on a pair of gloves and  then brought my 100′ of line  to the boat, and  behold it was a 26″ red grouper still on the hook, so Mike & I are both taking credit on 1/2 grouper caught each.

Terry, Bob And I want to thank Mike for a good and SAFE day on the water again

Mike Spanhel and my-self ( rick Uffa) hooked up with Mike K.

We left as usual EARLY. Mike had put some traps out the day before, and  they were loaded with all type of bait in the morning.

The sea gods were nice to us  again,  just a little rough going out but nice all day, and it was a very cloudy day, so that even made it nicer to fish.

Mike  hit 5-6 different spots but the fish were there on his screen, but weren’t cooperating very well.

We caught a few keeper grouper, and almost limited out on ars, again nothing Hugh.

The catch of the day was, Mike  K saw a large cobia swimming round the boat, so we both threw in our free lines at him, and he decided to hit my live 4″ grunt.  It took about 75 yards of line before he started to slow down, he made a few  jumps way out and deep dives around the boat,  I got him close and  Mike gaffed him, in 1 try. Mike estimated it to weigh at least 40+ lbs

Mike S and I want to thanks Mike for a great day on the water as usual.

Left from Anclote Marina and headed to area near sailboat.  Nothing much there so headed to Fred Howard Park.  Caught a few undersized trout.  Decided to drift from the sandbar.  It was there that we caught several trout (one nice one), several mangrove snapper (one keeper and one just short).  We used soft plastics on a jig and a few drifted shrimp.  Got one bite off and shredded line so at least one mackerel out there.  Nice breeze so weather was bearable but also meant some chop.  Beautiful and safe day on the water and a fish fry for dinner.  Thanks Mike Travica – Mike B
