Went out this morning and fished hard around the small islands at the mouth of the Anclott River. We caught several small Trout and Mike caught this nice 20″ + Snook. Not a slot but a good fight. Released unharmed to fight another day. Had a great day on the water despite the hot weather. We used artificial baits only to include gulp, jigs and suspending lures.

Terry Freeman, Mike Spanhel and my-self (rick U) all meet Mike at Nick’s park early as usually.

Mike S had put out his pin fish traps out the night before and when we picked them up on the way out both traps were full to capacity.

So mike wanted to go way out to spots he hasn’t been to in a long time. The first spot didn’t produce anything, but the screen showed lots of fish. We did see a hugh cobia at this spot but it had no interest in out free lining pins.

Then we move even further off shore to a gag grouper hole. The only problem all of our gear wasn’t heavy duty enough to bring in the big boys that were hitting our lines. We all broke lines and I even straighten out a 7/0 hook. We did manage to catch 2 keeper grouper 25 & 26″, but if you noticed in the pics, they were sooo skinny.

Then we move back to the original spot and the tide was ripping by then, and the screen was loaded with fish, but this time the bite was on. We all limited out on ars , but no monsters.

Terry saw big fish swimming around the boat about 40′ below, so Terry put out a free liner with a pin fish, no sooner he put it in the rod holder it bent in 1/2. Here they were hugh Bonito. This was Terry’s first one, and gave him a great fight.

We didn’t hit any rain storms , but they were all around us all day.

The gang want to thank Mike for a great day on the water

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report do not state the fish’s length in this box. State the length and species in the box below Well this trip was nothing to write home about. Put the boat in the water on Thursday afternoon, ran out the Cotee to sink a couple pinfish traps and then tied the boat to Chet’s dock in Miller Bayou. Met Chet, Mike B and friend Rick at Chet’s dock, loaded the boat and went to pick up the traps. Had plenty of bait so we were off and running to the first stop in 63′ of water. This is (was – another boat showed up and anchored about 200 yards down the ledge from me.) a private number, a 2′ ledge, that I had not fished in a couple years. It used to produce all kinds of grouper. Marked a ton of fish, and started catching grunts and sea bass, not the expected grouper. I think we did pull one or two short reds up. Finally had enough of this spot and knew of another spot , 22 miles further out that has been producing for a friend. Started to head to that spot but noticed a waypoint on the chart that was just off my course, and it was only 1.6 miles away. Diverted to that spot and marked loads of fish, the proverbial Christmas tree of snapper. Four rods dropped and three resulted in immediate hook ups, all legal red snapper. Decided to anchor and the bite turned slow. A couple hours, both anchored and drifting around the marker resulted in a limit of snapper, but no legal grouper. Sun and heat was unbearable and we pulled the plug and turned on the AC at noon. Back at the dock, boat back on the trailer and fish cleaned by 2:00.

I went on the 12 hour trip with Two Georges and we all caught our 2 fish limit of red snapper. They were eating frozen cut sardines. We were out 50 miles in 100 foot of water. The weather was perfect and lots of blue water. Another great day of fishing. Tightlines

Mike S and I decided to do a morning of fishing so we meet at Belle Harbour Marina to head out. The skies were dark and there was some thunder so we decided to grab a cup of coffee to see if things cleared off. While at coffee we ran into Mike T who was also headed out fishing. We decided to chance it and fortunately missed most the rain. We fished the end of the Anclote both sides using shrimp and Gulp white minnow. The bite was slow with mostly under size trout and catfish. We were in by 1pm and had enjoyed a fun morning of fishing.

Decided to try the ponds again this evening after today’s rain. It was hot and buggy but the bite was on. Couldn’t replace my usual Yum worms at walmart so I decided to try the only worms available ( Yum 5″ dinger WTMLN PEARL LAM ) glad I did. Caught 9 bass ( a personnel best ) in less than 2 hours, no bigs ones , a few in the the 2-3 lb range ( it would look bigger , but I fish solo and couldn’t hold it out Ha Ha Rick ) The fish shown in my last report was a tournment entry, but I made a mistake when making the report ( my Bad )

The hot weather seems to have slowed the bass bite a little. Sunday evening after a few showers and a light wind , it cooled a bit. So I went to a couple of local ponds to try my luck. Caught a bass on the first cast and ended up landing 5 bass in about an hour and a half. Green Senko worms with either a texas rig or wacky rig seemed to work well.

State the length and species in the box below Went out on the flats today from 8 AM to 1 PM with my shrimp. Drifted flats in front of Gulf Harbors and Howard Park. Caught several short trout and one keeper. Caught several ladyfish but not bad for a very hot morning. Tightlines
