Fish On Fishing Club Tournaments

This document describes the tournaments offered by the Fish On Fishing Club and the rules to be followed for each tournament and can be found on the Club’s website

 Tournaments

 

Rules – 2017 Club Year Long Fishing Tournament

Purpose: Promote friendly competition among club members throughout the year.

Goal: To catch the longest fish in a specie during a year long period.

Entry fee: $5.00 per species, member selects which species (one or more) he/she wants to compete for. Entry fees will be collected by Mike Spanhel and the member’s name will be recorded.

Species: Sea Trout, Redfish, Snook, Spanish Mackerel, Cobia, Red Grouper, Gag Grouper, Kingfish, Amberjack, any Snapper and Large Mouth Bass. Fish must be caught in waters between Sarasota and Cedar Key Florida.

Tournament Rules:

  • The winner will be the longest fish as measured by law in the State of Florida to the nearest 1/8th There is no minimum length for each species, only that the fish must be caught, measured and photographed. Entries MUST be posted with a fishing report and picture on our club website to be valid and eligible for prizes. The posting MUST occur within 48 hours of catching the fish. Mike Spanhel will record the catch. Before the actual posting occurs Frank Bellizio will edit the report and remove the length of the fish. No results will be posted throughout the year.
  • Names of all members entered will be posted on the club’s website.
  • The tournament begins the day after the club meeting in February and ends the Wednesday before the After Holiday Party the following January.
  • Members may enter the tournament at the After Holiday Party or at any time during the year. Be sure to enter before you go fishing.
  • Winners: Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for each species. First place will receive 60% of the amount collected for that species, 2nd place will receive 30% and 3rd place will receive 10%. Members may only win one prize per specie. The winners will be announced during the After Holiday Party in January.
  • Fish caught on a commercial vessel, charter or under hire of a guide are not eligible

Note: A reminder that all out of slot fish or any fish to be released should be handled with care and released immediately after photo/measuring. Also all Florida fishing regulations apply to this and all FishOn fishing tournaments.

 

 

Fish of the Month Tournament

Purpose: Promote friendly fishing competition among club members throughout the year.

Goal: To catch the longest fish in the designated species (one species) during a month long period in waters from Sarasota to Cedar Key Florida.

Tournament time: The time for each monthly tournament time will begin the day after a club meeting and will end the day before the next monthly meeting.

Species: The targeted species are as follows:

 

January:          Trout

February:        Redfish

March:            Trout

April:              Kingfish/Spanish Mackerel

May:               Cobia

June:               Any Snapper
July:                L. M. Bass

August:           Trout

September:     Snook

October:          Redfish

November:      Any Grouper

December:      Spanish Mackerel
Entry Fee: None

Winner by Specie: The winner will be the longest fish as measured by law in the State of Florida to the nearest 1/8th inch. Prize/Recognition: The member catching the longest fish during the month will receive $20 during the next club meeting. The member must be at the meeting and verbally report the size of the fish to win.

2017 Tri-Annual Tournament

Friday, February 24, 2017
Backup Date:  Tuesday, February 28th

Purpose: To promote friendly fishing competition among club members.

Goal: To catch the heaviest fish in the designated species listed below.

Entry Fee: $10.00 per member

Species: Redfish, Trout, Spanish Mackerel, Kingfish and Red Grouper

Tournament Rules:

·       Only club members may participate, no captains or other non-members are allowed to fish with club members during the tournament.

·       The tournament begins at 12:01AM on the designated date and ends at the weigh in time that same day.

·       Winners will be the heaviest fish of each specie as weighed during the weigh in, time and location to be announced, generally at Nick’s Park at 4:00PM.

·       Fish and member must be at the weigh in on or before the designated time otherwise they will not be eligible.

·       Prizes: $50 for 1st place, $25 for 2nd place and $10 for 3rd place. Members may only enter one fish per specie.

·       Members may fish in any Gulf of Mexico water between Sarasota and Cedar Key Florida.

·       Fish caught on a commercial vessel, charter or under hire of a guide are not eligible.

2017 Tri-Annual Tournament

Backup Date: Thursday May 18th

 

Purpose: To promote friendly fishing competition among club members.

Goal: To catch the longest fish or combination of fish (See below)

Entry Fee: $10.00 per member

Species: Trout and Redfish (See below)

Tournament Rules:

·       Only club members may participate, no captains or other non-members are allowed to fish with club members during the tournament.

·       The tournament begins at 12:01AM on the designated date and ends at the weigh in time that same day.

·       Artificial bait only!

·       Categories eligible for prizes are:

o   Longest single trout

o   Longest two (2) trout

o   Longest total of one trout and one redfish

o   Longest single redfish

·       Prizes: $50 for 1st place, $25 for 2nd place and $10 for 3rd place for each category. Members may only enter one category.

·       Winners will be determined during the weigh in, time and location to be announced, generally at Nick’s Park at 4:00PM.

·       Fish and member must be at the weigh in on or before the designated time otherwise they will not be eligible.

·       Members may fish in any Gulf of Mexico water between Sarasota and Cedar Key Florida.

·       Fish caught on a commercial vessel, charter or under hire of a guide are not eligible.
