At zero dark thirty 7/10, Mike Spanhel , Bob Sherley and myself loaded my boat with provisions and drove to Nick’s Park boat ramp and headed out for a day of grouper fishing in the gulf. After catching some pinfish and grunts we made a 50 mile run to a large area of hard bottom. The forecast was for 20% rain and 5mph wind and the ride was relatively comfortable. Once we arrived, we started catching red grouper right away: most were keepers .Live bait and sardines were both productive. We also caught Vermillion and Lane snappers on squid and pieces of sardines. We moved once looking for some Gag grouper but a boat was on our wreck so we moved back to the hard bottom and caught some of the largest Red grouper of the day, one was over thirty inches. We left for home at 4 with a full fish box and plenty of sunshine.
