Fishing Report Mike and I headed out at around 7:30am from Gulf Harbors. It was like glass and new wind or current. We could see bait fish swirls and fish jumps everywhere. Mike was throwing a spoon and hooked up on a nice keeper trout. I was using my new popper rig with tandem hooks. A tarpon came up and circled the popper several times and even nosed it but no strike. We fished the area while longer with nothing significant happening so we headed out to deeper water in the channel. We caught a catfish and small trout but nothing to rave about so we went to the sandbar. Nothing really happening here, just a few small trout. Next we fished in front of the north power plant channel in 3ft of water near an oyster bar with no hits. In deeper water on the flats we found trout again but a storm front was moving in quickly so we headed home and were at the dock by 10:30. All in all a short but good day of fishing. Thanks again Capt. Mike.

Fishing Report Team Uffa had the pleasure to fish with Dave Post a guy from the Gulf Harbors fishing club. We got at Dave’s house at 6:00 a.m. sharp and it was lightening very badly, so we hung out for 45 minutes , then we headed out of the south channel. we didn’t go to far cause of the rain off shore.

So we only went out to the last marker in south channel and started to fish, we started with surface lures and were caught small trout on top. So jean changed and put on her favorite lure the gold spoon and she was catching one trout after another. She ended up with 2 keeps and miss a real big trout at the boat.

Dave and I only caught small trout. Dave only fishes with a fly rod and was interesting watching him catch fish on streamer.

Jean & I were taking turns with a free lining rod, bring in small sharks, about 24-30″ using live pin fish.

We fished till noon and called it a day.

We want to thank Dave for taking us out

Fishing Report Decided to try Frank’s area one more time, 8-10 feet of water off Gulf Harbors. Left home about 7:30 AM and fished for a few minutes before high tide, caught one keeper trout. At high tide I left to get fuel. Went back to the same area just as the water started moving. For some reason I decided to track all the fish I caught. For the morning I caught 9 trout (only 2 keepers), 6 pin fish, 2 sea bass, 1 mangrove snapper, 3 spot tails, 3 cat fish, 3 lady fish and 1 blow fish. The second sea bass was caught on the last shrimp. Got really hot about 10:30 AM, used my last shrimp at 11:00 AM and called it a day.

Fishing Report Jim McCarthy and I left about 8 AM today and headed for the same area that Frank showed me last week. We were about 2/3 miles west of Gulf Harbors in 8 to 10 feet of water. The trout wanted shrimp and cut bait. Until about 10:30 the bite was steady. We caught 20+ trout with 3 keepers to about 17″. Only caught a couple cat fish and no lady fish this time. Home and the boat was cleaned by 12:30 PM. Good day! Thanks Jim for going.

Fishing Report Kayak fishing with Joe H out of Anclote.  Left dock at 5 AM with some frozen shrimp and live netted pinfish and whitebait on a early outgoing tide in 2-3 ft of water.  The catfish bite was on! If it wasn’t a catfish it was a ray. Had to move to get away from them.  Then we did catch several short redfish along with one keeper and one 29″ overslot before first light.  When the sun came up the bite went away.

Fishing Report After picking up pin fish from traps, Mike Kaplan took me and Terry Freeman out to 95/100 feet of water. Our first stop was the most productive of the day. By about 9:30 we had one keeper gag and two keeper red grouper plus one mangrove snapper. We caught and released several short grouper. Throughout the day we caught numerous red snapper, why is the season closed?

Mike took us around rain all day while keeping us dry that is until we returned to the boat ramp. Just as we were pulling the boat on the trailer the bottom dropped out and we were soaked in a few seconds.

Great day with great company. Thanks Mike K!

Fishing Report Captain Mike and I headed out for a few hours of morning fishing in hopes of beating the heat.  We fished the north channel of Gulf Harbors and other than Mike catching a fair size spot fish all we had were small fish  stealing our shrimp.  We decided to head out to Marker 4 but stopped in the north south channel about half way between Gulf Harbors and Anclote Key near the channel marker.  We drifted this area for about 2 hours and caught trout, catfish, ladyfish, shark and jacks.  Mike caught one real nice keeper trout and I caught the largest ladyfish I had ever caught, around 27″.   It was a fun day and we were back at Mike’s dock by 11:30 am having caught around 30 fish.  We used mostly shrimp and cut ladyfish and cut pinfish with a small buckshot just off the bottom on the drift.

Fishing Report First time out kayak fishing in 3 weeks with Joe H. Just been TOO HOT lately. Hit 2 bait shops and neither had any live shrimp.  Good start. Netted some live pins and a few whitebait. Left the dock at Anclote at sunrise with an incoming tide and a steady pleasant breeze.  Fished about 2-2 1/2 hrs.  First hour we caught a few nice reds. Second hour with the tide moving well we found some mullet schools with redfish in 2-3 ft of water and caught 10 more — all keepers 18-22″.  We did not catch any shorts today and no junk fish and I did catch one overslot at 29″.  The reds were jumping all over live and cut pinfish. The breeze really made the fishing pleasant.  Turned out to be a much better morning fishing than expected.

Fishing Report Left Nick’s Park Tues, with Rick U and BobS, for a day of Grouper fishing. The water was a little choppy in the morning but was smooth with little wind by mid-morning. We primarily used dead Threadfins because someone took most of our pinfish out of the traps before we got there.
We fished in 85 feet of water most of the day moved 3 or 4 times but caught most of our fish at the 1st spot we stopped at. By the end of the day we had caught 3 large Red Groupers up to 30 inches and 2 Kingfish up to 39 inches, Rick U caught the largest Grouper and Kingfish. Bob S caught a 28 inch Red grouper and a 31 inch Kingfish. We also caught a bunch of smaller assorted snappers. A great day fishing but boy was it hot.
