Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report do not state the fish’s length in this box. State the length and species in the box below With lite winds forecasted Sharon and I decided to do our version of OFFSHORE fishing and get in on the shallow water GROUPER bite.  We left ANCLOTE HARBOR at 1030 and ran out to 25 feet for our first drop. Looked great on the GARMIN but no hits. We were using shrimp & squid. We trolled a XRAP  to a 2nd spot in the same depth but no strikes. We went back to bait but again nothing. We ran to a 3rd spot in 30 feet. We started catching small SAND PERCH and GRUNTS. The fish of the day came when I was reeling in what was probably another SAND PERCH. As I was reeling it in, I noticed a large dark fish below the boat at about 15 feet so I stopped my retrieve and let the PERCH hang there until I felt a strike. I soon reeled in a COBIA. It was a short at 29 inches and was released after a picture. No GAGS but a nice day on the water.

Great day on the water with our newest member. Thanks Jeff and Maggie.

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report do not state the fish’s length in this box. State the length and species in the box below Kevin R, invited Mike B, Mike K and Mark C, for a day of Gag fishing. Weather conditions were great when we left from Gulf Harbors. We picked up 4 traps full of lively Pinfish and Grunts and headed out to our first spot in 30 feet of water. Using mainly live bait and Threadfin Herring, we tried several spots. The bite was slow and the few fish caught were small. We then headed out to 40 feet and we started to catch some nice keepers. We kept moving around at this depth picking up a few fish at each spot. By 3 we had caught our limit of Gags. Live bait seemed to be the bait of choice. At this time we headed home with a full cooler. Another great day fishing with good friends.

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report do not state the fish’s length in this box. State the length and species in the box below Meet up with Capt. Dave Taylor, Dennis S. and Paul P. at the Hudson dock and headed out about 7AM. Traveled to a spot at about 40 ft. The bite was slow with a few grunts, puffers and lizard fish till Capt Dave landed an undersize Gag, the only grouper we saw this day. A little while later, Dave was surprised by a huge yank on his rod in the holder and soon had the 36 in King bleeding out on the free board. It was a pretty windy day and not much more action so we called it a day early.

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report do not state the fish’s length in this box. State the length and species in the box below Captain Mike Spanhel invited Dave Taylor, Frank Bellizio, and yours truly for a day of huntin’ and hookin’ for whatever would cooperate.A bit cool in the morning but winds and the sea were comfortable as we headed out at 8:00 AM with and outgoing tide and low tide scheduled around Noon.Loaded up with 10 dozen live shrimp, frozen shrimp, Sardines and Squid – a short run and first stop was in about 35’ of water – water temps about 63 degrees.Hopes were high for some Hogfish, but some pesky 3 and 4 taco Grunts got in the way along with some above average Sheeps – biggest was close to 18”.Captain Mike kept moving around the ledge –  then the big girls decided to come out and play.Over the next couple hours Grouper action got pretty wild. We would stop at a new spot, stir up the Grunts and Puffer fish (at least one of the guys was tickled pink!) – then put out the Squid and Sardines. Big chunks of Squid and cut Sardines were the ticket. All told we put 6 keepers in the box and released +20 just shorts.Dave Taylor had honors with the biggest Grouper by a ¼”. Dave used a rather unique system to win Big Fish bragging rights. It started when he hooked up and got rocked by a big bruiser – he let it sit in the rocks for a good 30-40 minutes – eating and growing during all that time down there. When he was sure he got an extra ¼” he brought in the bruiser – what a fight and a beaut of a fish! It was an awesome fight!Started to get overcast about 1:00 and wind picked up a little – so all decided it was a good time to head in as we had a lot of fish to clean.Of interest, 3 of the Gags had broken off rigs deep in the gut but were still eating and one Gag had half dozen cut Sardine heads in the stomach – I swear I recognized a couple of ‘em as mine – go figure.Ride was smooth all the way back and a ‘good time was had by all’ – Thank you Captain Mike for a great time!!!!!!
