We caught lots of Lady fish on live shrimp and had non stop action until we finally ran out of shrimp. Lady fish are called the poor man’s Tarpon as they never stop jumping until you get them in the boat and we had a blast.

Caught one random Jack at the end of our trip.

It appears the Sheepshead are done spawning & for the most part have left the canals. Three of us caught a single sheepshead. We used live shrimp, cut bait & pin fish & we’re fishing for basically any fish that would bite.

If this report includes a tournament entry please state the species and length of the fish caught in this box. At last, Red Grouper season has arrived. On Friday Jan 3,
Terry F, Friend Joe, and Rick U left from Nicks Park in the dark and headed out to 100 feet of water in search of Red Grouper. the ride out was cold but tolerable. after the sun came out it finally warmed up.
For bait we used Threadfins and Ladyfish mainly and found the Groupers more than willing to cooperate.most of the Grouper were 24 inches and bigger. the big boy for the day was 28 3/4 in and put up a real fight. another Grouper that I almost landed had a really big head.  A shark took the rest. We limited out on Grouper by 1230 and stayed a little longer and headed in.
Everyone agreed that it was a good start to Red Grouper season.

Finally caught a decent size SNOOK (30 1/2 inches) off the island out of the Anclote River.  Hope this qualifies for the snook tournament.  Pam also caught a doubleheader.    Hooray!  Now trying to send the picture.  Talk about techno ignorant people, that’s us.  Patience is a virtue.

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report do not state the fish’s length in this box. State the length and species in the box below Took Denis out of the Anclote ramp on great looking morning around 8AM. Tried fishing for reds along the south side of the power plant,  but no luck. Moved out into 4 ft of water, threw white Gulp jerk bait while drifting out on a light breeze. I caught a trout on each of my first 10 casts. Denis was throwing a silver Gulp chub. Over the course of the next 3 hours we caught approximately 50 trout, several lady fish, lizard fish, and a flounder. We decided to only keep 5 of the keeper size trout, releasing all others. Headed back in at 12:30. Another great day on the water!

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report do not state the fish’s length in this box. State the length and species in the box below I finally found time after Milton to check out my boat and see if it would run.  I ask John Greider to come along for the ride.  When I got to the boat the tilt trim worked fine but the battery didn’t was almost dead so I smacked a batter charger on it.  I call John to tell him the news and he said we should go fishing in his boat for a couple hours, so we did.
The water was clear in some areas and murky in others but we caught small to medium trout and ladyfish along with buffers, lizard fish and black drum.  It was not one of those days you brag about but it was so good to get back on the water and feel the tug on the line.
