Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report do not state the fish’s length in this box. State the length and species in the box below Capt. Mike Spanhel invited Frank Bellizio, Stu Johnson and Terry Reelitz for a planned day of ‘Hog Hunting’ salt water style.

A spectacular Super Full Moon lit  the way to boat dock accompanied by a stronger than forecasted winds – I know that is a surprise!

The incoming tide was ripping pretty well, as was expected, the Tidal Coefficient was well over 100 because of the Full Moon.

Started the day in +40’ of water and the bite was on quickly with above average Grunts, the second spot held Grunts and the Hog bite started.

Frozen shrimp and squid was the bait of the day, sardines were dunked through out the day but did not entice any bites.  Several short Red Grouper were caught along with a Gag, these all caught on frozen shrimp as well.

Through out the day, about 15 Hogs were caught with 6 being legal, the largest was +16”’ – a rather good outing.

Tide went slack about 1:00 PM, so the crew decided to head in, clean the boat and fish and call it a day.

State the length and species in the box below On Tues, Team Uffa and Mike K were invited  by Jim Thirkill on an offshore trip in search of Gag Grouper and Hogfish. For bait, we were using live shrimp, Pinfish, and Threadfin Herring. We encountered a brisk breeze on the way out to our first spot in 30 feet of water. Action was steady with Gag Grouper, however they were small averaging around 16 in. Jim finally decided to move to 50 feet where we started getting Hogfish bites and action from larger Gags, none of which were keeper size. Rick and Jean Uffa caught 3 nice sized Hogfish. The biggest was 16 1/4 in, which Rick caught. Most of the spots we went to were spots Jim had caught numerous keeper Gags at earlier in the year. It was pretty evident that the Gags are moving out to deeper water. all- in- all it was another great day fishing.

With Ca[pt Michael catching a lot of cobia recently, Chet and I decided to try to get in on the action. The day before, Capt Michael caught 24 of these fish. We left the dock loaded for bear at about 7:45 and idled out the Cotee. Mike reported catching them on the flats North of the Cotee, so that’s where we headed. We fished these flats for several hours but did not a ray or a cobia so we went further West to our secret spot. Dropped a chum bag and fished there for an hour or so. While there, I caught a 22.5: Spanish, and Chet caught a smooth-skinned puffer. We also caught ladyfish, seabass, squirrelfish, and a bunch of others but no cobia. We motored back into the flats inside the stilt houses and motored around for another hour before pulling the plug. Seas were flat, sky’s sunny and a nice day lacking the target specie

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report do not state the fish’s length in this box. State the length and species in the box below Craig, Denis, and I headed out of Nicks Park at 7:30 toward Anclote Key sandbar.
Stopped after leaving river channel to hook up with a few under sized trout. Water temp at 79 degrees. Moved on to various areas throughout the flats both north & south of the Anclote river throwing plastic, gulp, and Mirrordines. Landed and released many trout, several over 16 inches. Butch landed the largest at 20 inches. Also caught many lady fish, sand perch, black sea bass, and other less-than-desirable species. Headed back in around 2:30. Denis was able to enjoy his last day, on the water, before going north for the summer. Thanks to Captain Craig for another great day of fishing.

State the length and species in the box below My friend Chuck Philips asked me to join him on a fishing charter out of Oniels Marina at Fort DeSoto for a day of Tarpon Fishing.  We headed out at 6 am and it was already windy, about 15 mph at that time.  After crossing to Egmont Key we stopped and picked up a well full of white bait.  Then we headed to the west side of Anna Maria Island.  Capt. Rob really new how to feather the throttle and got us through some shallows where the breakers were 3 to 4 feet without incident.  It was really wet though. lol  We came on 3 pods of Tarpon who showed no interest in anything we threw a them.  We followed them down the shore line and made about 20 contacts with different pods of Tarpon.  3 hours later near the south end of Anna Maria where there is a channel and the Tarpon slowed down.  We saw what keep them moving with no interest in feeding,  Hammerhead sharks, about 10′ ers.  We finally had two hook up, I didn’t have one all day, but we never got either fish to the boat.  One line failure and one just threw the hook.  All of the sudden the bite stopped and we could not find the Tarpon again.  We searched all the way back but no dice.  I have to say Capt. Rob Gorta did an excellent job of keeping us in fish even if they wouldn’t bite.  I will be headed back soon on a day without 20+ mph winds.  Thanks Chuck for inviting me and many thanks Capt. We caught red grouper, the largest mangrove snappers I have ever seen! Joe caught a beautiful ARS and the biggest mangrove snapper I have ever seen! We caught 3 more that were amazing size! Everyone was catching fish. My biggest grouper to date. We used squid and herring. Thank you Joe for another great day on the water! Another great memory made!! Great times!!!

State the length and species in the box below Fished offshore with my wife and daughter out to 100′.  Caught our limit of red grouper between 23″ and 27″.  Also caught two mango snapper 22″ & 24 1/2″.  We left early and headed back in at 1:30.  Seas were 1′ or less all day – it was a beautiful family fishing day.
