Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report do not state the fish’s length in this box. State the length and species in the box below Capt. Joe Stand invited Bob and Shelli Sauban and Terry Reelitz for a chance to chase some Red Groupe, plus a hint of a surprise before heading home that day.Despite not knowing what the ‘surprise’ was we headed out to +100’ of water in anticipation of tangling with a limit of monsta R.G’s and mini-snappers for some tasty fish tacos. On the water at 6:30 AM, we found the seas slightly choppier than NOAA had predicted – but that seems to be a regular occurrence these days.We hit +100’ by 9:30 and started to launch squid, threadfin, and ladyfish filled with confidence we were gonna get to our surprise before noon. It did not take long as we had our first five keepers well above the 20” threshold before 10:30  – this was gonna be a breeze. The early success bite was ladyfish heads adorned with a little strip of squid for some added bling.Well, as can happen on occasion the bite slowed down. We kept trying different drift spots and lightened up on the weights as it seemed like the current slowed down some and tried all kinds of different combos. We started to worry that our surprise was wanning as it got to about 1:30 – but, we picked up two more measuring 20 and a scooch to get to 7 fish – still one short of limit. About 2:00, number eight hit a ladyfish head, this bruiser came in at 29 and a scooch. Now, we could enjoy our ‘surprise’.After a 15-mile run Captain Joe stopped in 110’ of clear blue water that showed some big suspended marks at about 50’. We threw out pieces of squid and ladyfish tails and Captain instructed us to tie on a couple 6”-8” Yo-Zuri Mag Poppers. We set up 2 spinning combos featuring 4500-6500 Penn reels loaded with 65 lb. braid mounted on Star Rods, model EXJS66H, and started chucking. We created quite a surface ruckus with these magnum poppers. Well, all of sudden we were ‘surprised and amazed’ to see we weresurrounded by ‘hundreds’ of 30-to-60-inch A.J.’s.In the next hour, we hooked up about 10 A.J.’s … we had 5 or 6 that hooked up and took us on a ride to hell, but came unbuttoned or broke off.We did manage to boat five A.J.’s – Shelli Sauban boated 2, biggest 45-1/2”, Bob Sauban a 40”er and Terry Reelitz bagged 2, the biggest at 39”. During all that mayhem, Bob had the wherewithal to land a 23” Mangrove Snapper, a great final finish to our ‘surprise’.To note, ‘ALL’ of the A.J.’s were returned to the water and able to swim off to create havoc on another day for a lucky angler!Interestingly enough, all these A.J.’s were wrestled with or boated with 2 spinning outfits that featured Penn spinning reels with a minimum of 30 lbs of drag and mounted on a Star Aerial Jigging rod model Heavy EXJS66H.These combos came to the party and held up for an awesome fishing experience. The beauty of the gear we were using was that we were able to get these wonderful creatures to the boat quickly, before they were completely worn out. When returned to the water they were able to avoid the sharks that were very visible and lurking about. We did NOT lose an A.J., this was conservation at its best!Well, it just so happens that Wish-To-Fish is raffling off a spinning combo that will handle these fish. So, catch a BIG fish and help a Kid get hooked on fishin’BooYah!Capt. Joe, what a wonderful ‘surprise’ thank-you – A good time was had by all!!!!

State the length and species in the box below Captain Joe Stand invited Freddie Penrow, Bonnie Allen, and Terry Reelitz out for a day to mix it up with some Red Grouper and whatever else might just happen to come along.Left the dock at 6:30 am loaded up with frozen Ladyfish, Bonito, Threads, Dines, Squid and high hopes…Hour and a half smooth ride got us out to +100’ of water. Current was running pretty good, bite started out strong with LadyFish heads being the favorite bait out of the gate. Within the hour we were halfway to the boat limit, but we had to wade through numerous shorts to get to that point. As mentioned, the current was flowing pretty good, it was taking 14-16 oz weights to stay on bottom during the drifts.About mid-morning, the tide change and the drift was kinda funky but still running strong. The bite slowed down considerably for some reason, those RG’s that did bite were now becoming very short. On the bright side Bonnie was a catching machine for Lanes & Vermillion – the Lanes were running quite a bit bigger which was nice. The best set up choice was a hi/lo with squid chunks – again it took a fair amount of weight to keep the rig down on the bottom. We kept changing drift patterns during the lull, luckily a little afternoon the bite started up again with Ladyfish still being the favorite bait and we added a couple more to the box, there were still multiple shorts to get to that point. As we inched closer to our limit, we noticed the wind had picked up and a slight chop was developing. Captain Joe pulled a changeup and put a grunt head on. It finally got us to number 8 with a nice fattie that measured plus 20 some inches. We decided to head in, the ride in was a little rougher than the ride out – but ‘a good time was had by all’ non the less.Freddie Penrow won the fishing groups inaugural ‘Sweet Cheeks’ Biggest Fish contest and was awarded all the Red Grouper cheeks as his prize – Congratulations!

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report do not state the fish’s length in this box. State the length and species in the box below I hooked up with my neighbor Captain James for a day of catching. There were 6 of us on his 27′ sea hunt.James  recently got some good red grouper #, 60 miles off shore he want to try, we left at 6:00 am, and our 1st stop was to get white bait at maker 4. 15 minutes there and we had a dozen or so big white bait.At the first spot the big grouper were chewing, we had 6 in the box within 1/2 hr. The bait of choice was 4″ pieces of lady fish, and cut up grunts. We moved 2 more times and totally limited out with 12 red grouper, and a few nice lanes. At the last spot  James threw out a free liner and to our surprise we tied up with a 30 lb tuna, it took 40minutes to get it in, what a fight on light tackle. On the way in we stopped at a wreck 40 miles off shore and played  with the amber jacks for 3/4 hr. James’s daughter never caught one and she landed 3, I got 2  and biggest was 42″.So we had a great day on the water and can’t wait to try those #’s againRick Uffa

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report do not state the fish’s length in this box. State the length and species in the box below Captain Joe Stand invited Bob Sauban and yours truly for a day on the water… our friends at NOAA showed 5-10 winds and seas 1 ft or less – perfect to head out to +100’.We had a four-legged hitch hiker that wanted to join us, we thought better and left him on shore as we headed out to the South channel.Flat seas greeted us, as well as a picture-perfect rainbow off on the distance – that gave us pause as we’ve not had great luck with rainbows, we spot on the way out – but Captain hit the throttle none the less and we cruised out at +40 knots for an easy ride.First drift started in 104’ of flat seas, bang! Bobby put a 30”er in the box and that fish was followed up by all us rather quickly with 3 more +25”ers.The current was very frisky, it took 12/14 oz. weights to stay on the bottom, and cut Ladyfish was the early favorite item to dine on.Well, we got a little full of ourselves on our early easy success and decided we would only keep +25”ers to fill out our limit moving forward. We vented and tossed back about twenty plus legal RG’s but short of our self-imposed 25” target. We were just waiting for a little bigger fish. Ladyfish topped off with some juicy squid was the popular meal ticket.Interestingly, we should have paid attention to the fact that Sand Perch, normally the ultimate candy to RG’s went untouched.Well, the showers snuck up on us and after a brief spritz, the wind picked up big time. Unfortunately, that put a hamper on the bite – the RG’s shut down. Switched over to Lanes and Vermilions and culled our way to a enough for a several greattaco dinners – hi-lo rigs with squid were the ticket. We continued the drifts despite the winds, it took 16/22 oz. to stay close to the bottom. At this point we put on grunt heads and big messy glops of smelly stuff hoping to get the last 2 bigger critters to fill out – all of it ignored. The wind abated slightly, the skies cleared up and the bite started back up again.Bobby hauled in a another +25”er, we are only 1 short now. We all lost several big bites that came unbuttoned early in the fight. In the end, Joe finally had the big ol’ girl on we needed to finish out the day – got it all the way up from 105’ down to within 10 feet of the boat, I was ready with the net…. Well, she spit out the grunt head Joe had on, blew us a kiss, turned around and went back home.We decided that was a sign for us to head in…At the cleaning table Bobby earned the ‘cheeks’ for biggest fish of the day, ‘a great time was had by all’.

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report do not state the fish’s length in this box. State the length and species in the box below I had a chance to go out with CAPTAIN CARLOS on the BOTTOMS UP . The plan was to target HOG FISH. We left the harbor at 830 and ran NW  to the first drop in about 30 feet. There were 5 fisherman aboard. Everybody’s line was attacked by the fish but mostly GRUNTS so we moved on to another spot in about 35. Here again we were attacked by mostly GRUNTS but a lot of small RED GROUPER and a few short GAGS. I got 2 GAGS here about 20″ in size and several short REDS. I also got the only legal HOG of the trip, a first for me. We did 2 more drops, getting to about 45 feet. We caught a lot of fish at every drop. Mostly GRUNTS but a nice mix of PORGYS, BLACK SEA BASS, TILE FISH and lots of short GROUPER. I caught more grouper on this trip than any in the past even though they were short it was still lots of fun.

State the length and species in the box below Dave Diehl and I took the long drive to Key West to go on a deep drop on the Yankee Capts.  We arrived in Key West at about noon on 4/13/23 and waited to board the boat till 3:00.  After getting all aboard, we left the dock at 6:00 and settled in for the long run to start fishing.  We actually started fishing 13 hours later in 500″ of water.  The first day was, to say the least, frustrating as I lost several entire rigs of terminal tackle which included 3 pounds of lead and only caught 2 fish.  That evening we moved into shallower water to fish for Mutton Snapper, but that bite was non-existent.  What saved the day was tuna, on slow pitch jigs.  I caught several as did Dave, but the barracuda were also present and bit off several jigs.  One very cool thing was we had a blue marlin swimming around in the light eating the bait fish were also present. The next morning we moved back to 500 – 700′ and were deep dropping again, but with better luck.  We both caught the usual suspects, vermilion snapper, blackfin snapper, snowy grouper, blueline tilefish.  The coolest thing I caught was a Spanish Flag.  We  could not identify this fish until we returned to the dock at 6:00 AM on Sunday morning where were met by a NOAA/National Marine Fisheries scientist who identified it as a Spanish Flag. He said it was very rare and in his over 20 years of examining fish, had only seen 3 or 4 of these fish.  It’s going on my wall!!

Brumley, M Cummisky, friend Joe and myself, left Nicks Park at 7 in search of some Red Grouper. We stopped at first spot in 104 ft, after finding a good show of fish on the bottom machine. Within minutes Mike K caught a 27 1/2 in Red Grouper. Staying in the general area we spent the rest of the day catching Red Grouper and mixed snappers. We used live Pinfish and Threadfin Herrings and had success with both. We quit at 2 and had caught 5 keeper Red Grouper and a boxful of snappers. We also lost some monsters.  Another good day of fishing.

State the length and species in the box below Had a couple hours to spare… saw there was an outgoing tide in the afternoon, and I knew there wasFull Moon coming tomorrow – that meant the tide was gonna be frisky.Picked up a dozen pin fish and ran down to Fred Howard – yup the tide was moving pretty good.Trout bite was fast and furious – hooked up a 16 inch’er right off the bat, then the big fatty was next.Struggled for the next hour having to toss back Trout after Trout because they were all plus 19”, had to return ‘em back to the water.Non-the less we are good to go for Friday date night and Fish Tacos, even with just the two Trout,I’ll circle back and catch up with the returnees!Turned my attention to some of the big ol’ Snook hanging out below the bridge – well they won this round as I broke off twice – need to step up from a 30lb leader.Great couple hours, easy pickings – a ‘great time was had by all’Hint – usually need a split shot for a little weight when running a flatline in current– even with pinfish, but especially with Shrimp. But the dang weight would inevitably hang up on rocks and such.Solved that with ‘weighted Circle Hook jigs’ – these kept the pins down in the water column in the tide and did NOT hang up – see pic attached– available on Amazon different weights and sizes. Hook-up % was 100% for the day.
