We went out with frozen threadfin and squid as bait, which worked well.  The however, when a small octopus was caught the game changed.  We cut it up for bait and the action was non-stop.  We headed home shortly thereafter with limits of 22-27″ grouper along with misc. snapper.

I like to keep octopus to take home to eat.  That may have ended!

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report do not state the fish’s length in this box. State the length and species in the box below Captain Dave Taylor invited Dave Gullickson, Butch Kaelin and Terry Reelitz for a day on the water.

March was a tough son of a gun for weather but went out like the preverbal lamb – it was a great day on the water.

Headed out of Port Hudson at day break, winds were calm as well as the seas. We were loaded up with frozen shrimp, sardines and high hopes of slaying some Hogs and maybe a King or two.
Low tide was early and a brisk incoming tide started about our 1st stop.

We hit about 4 of Captain’s spots – the day produced abundant healthy Grunts, only a couple Hogs, one being a beautiful keeper, a couple over active Spanish Macks and one over acjhiever King that was a nice surprise.

Butch was the Hogfish king for the day as well Puffer King.

About 1:00 PM tide started to slow and it did get a little warm out there as the wind subsided – so we headed in on calm seas and a great ride with plenty of bs’ing time.

Thanks Captain for an day on the water and a ‘good time was had by all’

State the length and species in the box below Launched the kayak at Anclote Gulf park at about 7A.M. hoping to get into a cobia.  It was calm and I was able to get out about a mile from the pier.  Started catching trout on white paddle tails with a 1/8 oz white jig head.  Puffers started eating up the paddle tails so i switched to shrimp and caught a few pinfish.  Put a pin on a hook with a float and in a short time had a shark on but only had small reels and light line, break off.  A short time later I had a spinner shark hit that same line and after he breeched the surface I had another break off.  It was a fun day catching lots of fish, wind picked up about 1 P.M. so I called it a day.
