Dave Taylor aboard the Sea The Moment for a day of offshore fishing at 7 am.  It was still dark but getting light as we left the dock.  Our first stop was in 37 feet of water where we caught a good number of grunts, porgies, puffers and I caught one Gag.  We moved to 50′ of water and could not find the bite.  We tried one more spot but once again the bite was hard to find.  We called it a day and were back in port at 2 pm.  It was a great day on the water with great friends and a few tight lines, what more can you ask for.

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report do not state the fish’s length in this box. State the length and species in the box below From Nick’s be Park at 7:30 AM this day started out cold, water temp 62, with an outgoing tide. The first 3 drifts, (north of the sand bar) throwing artificial jigs and mirrodines, proved futile except for one lady fish over 2 hours. Tried 10 to 12 ft. of water west side of Anclote Key with even worse results. Then near the south end of the island we hit the mother lose of lizard fish (30-40) & 2 sea bass. No reds in area this time. Moving further up the inside of island, on the tide change, we started catching trout, lady fish and several Spanish Mackerel, the largest being Butch’s 21 incher. Wind picked up, so headed back to ramp at 2:30. Overall it turned out to be a good day on the water.

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report do not state the fish’s length in this box. State the length and species in the box below Frank Bellizio, Stu Johnson, and Terry Reelitz joined Captain Mike Spanhel for a day planned chasing Spanish Mackerel.

The tide was lack luster for the day and the forecast of reduced winds in the afternoon just was not in the cards. Nonetheless, we headed out armed with a couple of chum blocks, live and frozen shrimp, gulp and some shiny rigs consisting of jigs and silver spoons.

The puffer fish had us surrounded for the day, we must have caught a hundred of them. Puffer King, Frank Bellizio made the decision on the outset he was not going to keep any puffer fish  for the day – just a couple Macks for the smoker. Well, word got out and the puffer fish  felt foot loose and fancy free for the day fearing not ending up in the skillet.  We also caught an assortment of small drums, bigger than average Sea Bass and most puffer fish caught were bigger than average and a lot were downright huge!

Bounced around Pasco Red 4 Buoy and slowly worked our way back to Gulf Harbor,. Working 8’-10’ water that hovered at 61 degrees for the day. We ended up with 5 keeper Macks, just enough for the smoker and one one skillet seared blackened dinner.

They were caught on freelined shrimp, white/chartreuse  Gulp and a bright chartreuse with silver mylar 3/8 oz jig bounced up off the hard bottom, and retrieved to the surface.

A good day on the water – thank you Capt. Mike

We  went into sand bay and  the very first cast we were catching mackerel. The ranged from 18-25.5″. We went threw 150 live shrimp in 2 1/2 hrs. We must have gotten cut of at least a dozen times between the 3 of us.

So they are finally showing up.

Anybody that would like to get out in their boat, give me a call, and we will put you on some mackerel.

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report do not state the fish’s length in this box. State the length and species in the box below Jean and I went out  to enjoy a nice day on the water, and we fished the N. channel, with no luck at all, then we moved to a secret spot over in sand  bay ( Mike Travica), you know where that spot is.

We had a good time catching there, lots of rat reds one after another, and the same with keeper size  black drum, we also caught  a few under size  sheepsheads, and some  lady fish. We must have caught 25 fish in 2 hrs.

Just as the bite was really picking up we had to leave due to the water rushing out of the bay.

This will be be the last report  for me.

Tight lines and good luck in 2021 catching
