The Rajun Cajun holds a special place in the hearts of all FishOn Fishing Club members.  As many of you know Dencil has had fights with Cancer in the past and today I saw his most recent post on FaceBook regarding his present condition.  I do Dencil’s website and speak to him regularly and from my previous conversations, I have learned that when he is in the middle of treatments, particularly those around or in his mouth, he does not like to take phone calls.  He does however appreciate messages on his website and FaceBook.  Let’s all send our thoughts and prayers to him during this difficult time. Bob Sherley, Tom Saska and I joined Captain Mike for one of his excursions to 90+ feet of water in search of Red Grouper and American Red Snapper. Wind Finder indicated a smooth ride but it lied again. A fairly rough ride both ways. Moved around a few times and we finished the day with 5 Red Grouper, 3 ARS and 8 Lane Snapper. Numerous short Red Grouper were released throughout the day. The best spot of the day was when all 4 rods were bent over at the same time. WOW!Great day on the water and all 4 of us returned pretty well dragging, as expected the heat got to us. Thanks Mike, hope to do it again!

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report fill out the box below also. I have been up north for the last 3 weeks and have been fishing the Merrimack river from the beaches. The strippers are in the river now and the slot limits take effect now.28” – 35” smaller and larger have to returned to the water.  I have been able to catch and release a number of them under and over the limits and a bunch in between so the fishing has been good. High to low tide seems to be the time to catch them. Cut mackerel on the bottom is the choice now but will change once the water warms up and clams will be used. Early morning a top water lure is fun also.Stay safe and catch a lot fish . See you guys in October!

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report fill out the box below also. We left ANCLOTE HARBOR MARINA at 11 AM and headed for the ANCLOTE ANCHORAGE. The wind was blowing southeast so we did drifts off the east side of the island starting in 2.5 out to 5 ft. and then we would restart the drift. We did best on GULP white curly tails. They were not interested in any other plastics we tried. We picked up a lot of small trout (12 inches). Sharon got one 17.5 trout that we released.

It was our last day in the keys and Mike S, Jack H, Stu J and Stu’s brother Paul and me headed down to Key West to go on a offshore charter from Fishmonster on the Yellow Boat.  The captain, Mike, was a funny guy and the mate, Ken, really did a awesome job of keeping the lines weed free and in the water.  The charts showed the area north of Key West was going to be rainy all day but when we left at 7:30 am it was raining and blowing hard with 4′ seas.  The Yellow Boat was a 38 footer and handled the water well.  We saw many boats headed back to the dock and the mate called them quitter’s, lol.  Anyway, we head south and did not see rain again until late in the day when we were having the fish cleaned.  We trolled for the first part of the trip and picked up 7 dolphin.  Stu hooked the largest, it was 20lbs and around 45″.  It was a long hard fight but Stu prevailed.  We then ran in closer to Key West in about 600 ft of water on the edge of a reef where Capt Mike showed us his secret for catching big Yellow Tail Snappers.  He predicted we would catch 10 and we ended up with 9 in the cooler.  We lost a lot of the yellow tails because of the small hooks used but it was an awesome day of fishing and we all recommend Fishmonster Charters if you in Key West.  They have offshore boats, a head boat, and an inshore boat. We had the perfect day to run offshore and my neighbor and his daughter wanted to go so off we went at 6am we ran more south about 60 miles looking for bigger fish we fished two hours tried different spots nothing not even a lane we decided to go back where we have been catching them we headed 10 miles north when we arrive the bite was instant quite a few throw backs but we only made one drift got our limit and headed home in the pool by 1 the drift was a steady pick till the end the last four keepers came in 15 minutes we a brute Bonnie caught the bait of choice was threadfin with some grunt pieces mixed in also caught a few lane and vermilion fun day for our neighbor and his daughter.

We woke up here in the Keys to low winds and sunny skies so Jack H, Mike S and me joined Capt Stu for some offshore fishing for Dolphin.  We were out for about 5 hours of trolling and the bite was really slow but we did boat one dolphin. We finally  did some casting at grass clusters and managed too more.  We didn’t boat a lot of fish but had a great time on the water and had enough for dinner.

Stu Johnson, Paul Johnson, Mike Spanhel, Jack Hexter and me had spent the last two days waiting for a break in the weather after driving down to Sommerland Key  The weather final broke today so we launched the boat and headed out for a few hours of yellow tail snapper fishing on the reef.  Luck was with us and we caught both yellow tail snapper and paloneto.  We fished for about 2.5 hours and ended up with enough for a fish fry tonight and fish to smoke for dip.  Tomorrow Mia Mia, watch for the report.
