Today my wife and I finally after a month we’re able to do some fishing , so we started at the dock , there were a ton of jacks in the canal , figured she could warm up on a few , then saw that the reds were moving in as well , and she hit this monster 29 in red , we then headed out front to the flats , we’re I hit a bunch of trout yesterday …however she caught , a 17 in trout , and we totaled 7 sharks , no exactly what we were looking for , but always a good fight , and as long as we’re catching it’s All Good !!! Weathers turned out to be increadible !!!

Our son James and family came to town for a few days from Las Vegas and I wanted to be sure he had some great fishing while he was here so I booked a trip with the Rajun Cajun.  We headed out of Bayport at 7:30am on calm seas but as the day went on the winds were 14 to 15 mph.  The Cajun lived up to his reputation and immediately took us to a Snook honey hole which proved to be one honey hole after another  We ended catching and boating 12 snook and 12 keeper size redfish.  We lost a lot of fish to cutoffs/breakoffs but we stayed busy reeling until around 1 pm when the wind really picked up.  The wind wrecked the bite so we headed in.  Many thanks to Capt. Dencil for a day James and I will remember for years to come.

After waiting weeks for a good day to get offshore, we headed out Thursday in search of Red Grouper. Seas were less than 1 foot, making the 50 mile super comfortable. We spent the day drifting but we didn’t cover much area because of the lack of wind. The catch included a mix of Red Grouper, Mangrove, Lane and Vermillion Snapper, Lesser Amberjack and assorted other reef fish. Needless to say, the ride out and back was great.

We departed the Anclote boat ramp at 8am.  The weather could not have been any better – warm, sunny, light breeze and calm water.  Could not have asked for a better day of fishing.  We landed dozens of keeper-sized trout, a few snook (including my 33-inch fighter and a few larger ones that got away) and one nice redfish to complete Bob’s inshore slam.  Back at the dock by noon with lots of fishing stories and great memories.

We had a calm day so we went 50 to fish red grouper the ride was flat and big pods of bait all the way out with flying fish mixed in the first drift produced a lot of throwbacks and numerous ars but the keeper grouper were slow coming I think it was the tide and wind was minimal so we weren’t covering much area but we managed to get 5 red grouper and 9 mangrove snapper along with two lanes we called it quits and headed home at 1:30 fun day fishing with friends.

I decided I needed a fishing trip where I was not responsible for anything but fishing so I called TWO GEORGES to book a trip for Wednesday. The person who answered told me the TWO GEORGES was in dry dock but MISS VIRGINIA was running the same trip so I booked the trip. MISS VIRGINIA has a new dock so it was a little disorganized there but we got there and just jumped on the boat. I had never seen the boat before. It was a lot smaller than TG but it seemed to run just as fast out to the grounds. It took about 90 minutes to get out to 45 feet. 1st drop we anchored up and fished. It was pretty slow there so after 30 minutes we moved to drop 2. This time the CAP said we were going to drift. First time I did this on a head boat but I did like it better. The best gunners in our club seem to do this all the time with great results. We caught mostly GRUNTS the whole trip. They did not offer any pinfish for bait. I think because they did not want us to disturb the GROUPER bite. A guy next to me caught a small grunt and put it on as bait and popped a grouper right away. Only 1 HOGFISH was taken by the boat, about 30 fishermen. Overall it was a good trip, lots of GRUNT taken. We kept about a dozen of the larger fish and threw the rest back. I was surprised how many people kept such small fish because I seen stringers of 40 fish. If I have a choice I would much prefer the TWO GEORGES because it is much larger and more comfortable but it does not have the FEDERAL LICENSE so it has to stay in the state waters.

Went out Friday around 1 pm tide was on its way out , hit the flats between north and south channel drifting using live shrimp , was pretty slow , about 3 o’clock though , it started to pick up !! Hit a 21 1/4 trout big and thick , then ran next to north channel last marker , when I saw something come out of the water chasing my live shrimp , thought was a shark , and caught it for about 5 min , once I got it to the boat realized it was a Cobia , ran to the back to get my net , it was probably a friek show scrambiling to get to the boat and net it !!! But it worked out … so needles to say it’s picking up .. see you out there ! Also Cobia was 32 in to small back In the water , also trout breader size !! Back in the water.

Today Dave Taylor and I decided to do some inshore fishing.  We headed down the Anclote River from Tarpon Springs at around 8:30 am. The incoming tide had just started in when we stopped and fished one of my spots near Marker 5a.  I had just had my boat serviced and it ran well out to our first stop.  After fishing for a bit and only picking up one small trout we went to leave.  The motor cranked and cranked but would not start.  Removing the cowel revealed it was getting gas so after several more tries I decided to call the mechanic who did the annual on it two weeks ago.  He said the magic words and the mortor started right up.  Since Dave had been in the Coast Guard Auxilliary I had actually put the kill switch wire around my wrist.  When we had stopped and I moved away from the console the pin was pulled and the kill switch kept the motor stopped.  The only reason I am telling this story is so the others who find themselves with a motor that won’t start might think of looking at the kill switch.  Anyway, we fished the rest of the day ending up down near the spoil islands near Dunedin.  We managed to catch short trout, bluefish, mangrove snapper and buffers.  Dave got a nice 30″ shark to the boat where we released him and I had a large spotted trout somewhere between 16 and 20 inches at the boat but the hook tore out of his mouth as I lifted him into the boat.  It was a bit windy in the morning but the wind died in the afternoon.  It clouded up and started to rain a bit just as we pulled out of the marina.  It was another great day on the water with a good friend and good fishing.

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report fill out the box below also. After much discussion over the weather we decided to go at 8am in the morning and the day was beautiful. We headed out at 35 knots so the 50 mile run was over quickly. the bite was on right away a lot of smaller size fish we released a few keepers and the day went on weren’t sure that was a good idea the fish were all undersize so we move to a different spot and started catching bigger fish. we limited out on red grouper , two ARS and a few lanes 1 mangrove. the bait of choice was threadfin with a couple fish caught on eels also Terry caught a huge nurse shark. It was a difficult day to drift fish because of a lot of current we had many tangled lines for Bonnie And Freddie to untangle, Bonnie can see them and Freddie uses the braille system. fun day we stuck with what works we kept drifting got our limit and headed to the barn.

Another way to get exceptional fishing and support Wish to Fish

A couple of weeks ago I posted a fishing report with a picture of me holding a big snook.  I caught the snook while on a charter with Capt.
