State the length and species in the box below Captain Bob Sauban invited yours truly for a trip to see if Macks are still hanging around after the recent cold front.YUP!!!!!Headed out North of Anclote Key, a little cool and seas were choppy.Non the less, we set out chum blocks, occasionally tossed some frozen shrimp out as teasers…. started out with poppin’ corks and shrimp on 3′ leaders with wire trace to avoid bite-offs…Action was a little slower, but the Mack’s still came through in packs.All in, we caught +30 Macks the majority being in 24″-27″ range.Burned through about 8 dozen shrimp, so a good deal out there is at Bait Depot for shrimo.Bob tangled with a big-ass shark that took him around the ‘toon at least once before breaking off when it got wrapped around a crab trap float…Awesome day out there, a good time was had by all…Thank you, Captain Bob for the Mack Attacks,!

State the length and species in the box below Well, it’s MACK SEASON so Terry sent me a text and asked if I was up for a MACK ATTACK and I said yes. So, we left ANCLOTE VILLAGE and headed out with a bucket of shrimp and a chum block. We stopped first in the ANCLOTE ANCHORAGE and tried for TROUT. Terry got a keeper on the very first cast (some say a bad omen). After that we didn’t get another fish there, so we decided it was time to go looking for MACKS. The plan was to go to the area north of ANCLOTE KEY and set up where we found a good opening in the CRAB POTS. We anchored up and started the chum block going. The wind was blowing in from the northwest and the tide was running out. We used popping corks with SHRIMP. We had wire leaders on to protect the line from the toothy critters. We had a lot of hits, but we had trouble keeping them on the hook, maybe circle hooks aren’t as good as a J hook for MACKS. Twice Terry had a strike above the POPPING CORK and of course that resulted in a bite off well above the CORK. We had a lot of action that resulted in 6 keepers and 3 small ones we left for next year. The biggest fish of the trip was a 30-inch COBIA. When he hit, he broke the water and at first, we thought it was a small SHARK but when we finally got him near the boat Terry thought it was nice RED but we finally got him to the boat we seen it was a COBIA. We boated him for a measurement, a PIC and then the release. It was a great day on the water and the fishing was hot. The chum block turned out to be a real success. The water (10 feet) was gin clear and it was interesting to see the various fish drawn to the boat from the chum slick. A couple of big sharks and a dolphin were drawn to the boat. Thanks to Terry for inviting me to a great day of fishing.

State the length and species in the box below Smorgasbord:  That’s what the catch turned out to be today.  Frank Bellizio and I went out to around 35 feet of water and, since the wind and current were pushing us southward, set a sea-anchor to slow us down.  While enjoying a fun day on the water we caught a mish-mash of sand perch, porgy, sea bass and a ton of nice sized grunts.  Frank also managed to get a few red grouper.  Saw a lot of fast surface action of fish feeding  in the distance but too fast for us to get in the mix.  Although we tried trolling for a bit on the way back to the marina without any luck, it was another great day to be out on the water!

State the length and species in the box below John invited me to do some inshore fishing with him and his neighbor Ed.  We left the dock at 11:30 am and as predicted the wind was blowing around 14 miles per hour.  The seas were a bit choppy at noon by laid down later in the day. We used fresh shrimp, squid and a artificals through out the day.  The fishing was OK but nothing to write home about.  We caught fish including sea bass, sand perch and spotted trout.  John and I both managed to catch a 20″ Spanish Mackerel.  It was a great day on the water with friends.  By late afternoon the winds had died down and the seas were relatively calm for peaceful ride back to the dock.  Thanks John for a great day of fishing.

State the length and species in the box below Menagerie was the name of the game today – catfish and pinfish (only one of each), trout and ladyfish  (several of each), unidentifiables (several), and three  Spanish Mackerel.Another great day to be out on the water!

State the length and species in the box below My son Bret is in town for a few days so I chartered a trip with Capt Rob Gorta down in St Petersburg. We headed out at 7:30 am to overcast skies and occasional drops of rain.  The first few hours until the tide swung around to incoming were slow with just a few reds and one snook.  Once the tide swung the doors opened up and we were catch reds with an occasion snook mixed in.  We move 5 times back and forth to different islands.  In the morning we could see fish but they were reluctant to bite but by afternoon the bite was on.  At our last stop near a bridge imbuement we caught at least 20 28″ to 26″ snook in an hour.  If you are looking to fish with an excellent Capt that gets you into some great fishing Call Rob Gorta, he website is https:fishingstpetersburg.com

My son Corey and I traveled to Cape Canaveral to fish the Banana River with guide Willy Le.  This was entirely fly fishing.  We started out on a little lagoon which was holding some small tarpon that were not real hungry.  I got 4-5 hits but could not put the hook into one.  Corey finally got one to eat the whole fly and landed his.  Then we went looking for redfish.  We saw numerous fish but they also had lockjaw.  They would follow the fly but turn off at the last minute.  Same with the snook we saw. We changed flies 7 or 8 times, various sizes, colors a and patterns. We finally found a couple schools of trout and caught numerous small trout but I did land one 20” fish.  I will say the conditions were not real conducive to sight fishing as it was mostly overcast and fairly windy but we made the best of it.

 If anyone is interested in fly fishing the space coast, (Banana River, Mosquito Lagoon, Indian River area) I highly recommend Willy Le.  He is great at spotting fish in skinny water and telling you where to cast for best result.

State the length and species in the box below My wife and I ran to the anclote sand bar , to get some pilchards , we found them , then headed in to the mangroves to get out of the wind , got a 19 in Red , then we ran back to Gulf Harbors rt out front hit a bunch of small trout , wife hooked up a descent silky shark , then I was able to catch this 18 1/4 trout !!

State the length and species in the box below Back on the water again after the breezy weather blew itself out.  Went to the usual inshore hotspots and was able to hook up with this nice 25 inch Spanish mackerel!

GAG FISHING UPDATE

If this report includes a tournament entry please state the species and length of the fish caught in this box. Bad news on 2023 gag season folks. NMFS is going to close it early. Early being October 19. Harvest levels are apparently too high and they want to avoid overrunning the annual catch limit.
