Today Dave Taylor and I decided to do some inshore fishing.  We headed down the Anclote River from Tarpon Springs at around 8:30 am. The incoming tide had just started in when we stopped and fished one of my spots near Marker 5a.  I had just had my boat serviced and it ran well out to our first stop.  After fishing for a bit and only picking up one small trout we went to leave.  The motor cranked and cranked but would not start.  Removing the cowel revealed it was getting gas so after several more tries I decided to call the mechanic who did the annual on it two weeks ago.  He said the magic words and the mortor started right up.  Since Dave had been in the Coast Guard Auxilliary I had actually put the kill switch wire around my wrist.  When we had stopped and I moved away from the console the pin was pulled and the kill switch kept the motor stopped.  The only reason I am telling this story is so the others who find themselves with a motor that won’t start might think of looking at the kill switch.  Anyway, we fished the rest of the day ending up down near the spoil islands near Dunedin.  We managed to catch short trout, bluefish, mangrove snapper and buffers.  Dave got a nice 30″ shark to the boat where we released him and I had a large spotted trout somewhere between 16 and 20 inches at the boat but the hook tore out of his mouth as I lifted him into the boat.  It was a bit windy in the morning but the wind died in the afternoon.  It clouded up and started to rain a bit just as we pulled out of the marina.  It was another great day on the water with a good friend and good fishing.

We headed out at 35 knots so the 50 mile run was over quickly. the bite was on right away a lot of smaller size fish we released a few keepers and the day went on weren’t sure that was a good idea the fish were all undersize so we move to a different spot and started catching bigger fish. we limited out on red grouper , two ARS and a few lanes 1 mangrove. the bait of choice was threadfin with a couple fish caught on eels also Terry caught a huge nurse shark. It was a difficult day to drift fish because of a lot of current we had many tangled lines for Bonnie And Freddie to untangle, Bonnie can see them and Freddie uses the braille system. fun day we stuck with what works we kept drifting got our limit and headed to the barn.

Another way to get exceptional fishing and support Wish to Fish

A couple of weeks ago I posted a fishing report with a picture of me holding a big snook.  I caught the snook while on a charter with Capt. Rob Gorta of FishingStPetersburg.com.  I told him about our club’s Wish to Fish program for kids and he said he would like to support the program  He agreed to make a contribution to Wish To Fish of 10% of any charters made with him from our club members so if you want a great day of fishing and you want to support our Wish To Fish program this is a great deal.  Capt Rob also offers excellent Tarpon Fishing outings which I did with him last year.  Give me a call or drop me an email if you have any questions.

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report fill out the box below also. I booked a trip with pro Capt. Rob Gorta of Fishing St Petersburg.  We were hoping the Tarpon would be out to play but they we not in the area so we elected to head out for Snook and Redfish.  This is the second time I had fished with Capt Rob and this twice I have been amazed at how he can find white bait without chumming, throw the 10′ net and overfill his live well to the extent that he has to release half the bait in the net back into the water because the livewell is overfull.  Anyway, we fished a lot of different areas from flipping under dock to the sand beach area of Egmont Key.  It was a good steady day of hooking up with snook from 20″ to 36″.  We had quite a few on that were lost to being in the pilings or cut offs but we still managed to boat 8 Snook.  We also hooked up with a few redfish but by in large it was a full day of fighting Jacks from 3lbs to 7lbs.  They were everywhere and while they are not good to eat pound for pound they were a lot of fun to catch.  It started to look like ran and it was about time to head in so we called it a day.  I recommend Capt Rob, this was my second trip with him and he always gets you on fish.  I spoke with him about working a deal for Wish To Fish and we will be putting together a way for him to help the club with our Wish to Fish program in the near future.

Your Fishing Report: If this is a tournament report fill out the box below also. I joined Mike Tuesday morning for a day of inshore fishing around the mouth of the Anclote River.  We headed out just after low tide and just as we entered the channel headed out into the Gulf around Marker 9 we ran into birds working the water so we stop and in just a few cast had hooked up with a few ladyfish.  They were nice size and we kept one for bait if we came on Mackerel which never happened.  We fished from the Gulf Harbors North Channel in 3 to 12 feet of water back down to the Anclote river channel catching a few small trout so we headed down to Marker 5 on the IC and worked our way in from 11 feet of water to 3 ft of water.  We manage to catch a good number of small trout and Mike caught the biggest of the day 161/4″.  We fished all artificals and no live bait all day.
